We set out to improve the learning experience of the undergraduate in a typical Nigerian University. We proceed to accomplish this by creating helpful resources and organizing undergraduate conferences and seminars. Through these platforms, we bring the winning methods of seasoned scholars into the full awareness of the average student.
About Me
In 2010, I gained admission into the University of Ilorin with a JAMB score of 294. I was disappointed because I was targeting a score of 300 at least. Prior to this, I had been teaching physics and mathematics in tutorials, to students preparing for standard examinations. Now, in the faculty of engineering, my performance followed the pattern of excellence that you would expect from a prodigy. My second semester 100level result was particularly memorable. With 7a’s and 1b, I totaled at a 4.98 GPA. This in itself is not exactly impressive until you understand that I did that while attending less than 5% of all lectures during that semester. However, in the harmattan semester of 2012, a series of events unfolded that would change my life forever. they could be summarized in 9 letters: HYPOMANIA!
Ordinarily, I am a very
imaginative and creative person. However, I was not prepared for the level of
extra brain activity and general effectiveness that I exhibited during the
hypomanic phase. It was intoxicating, but the human body cannot operate in
overdrive for prolonged periods, without serious side effects. In a few short
weeks, I was in a crisis situation which eventually took 4 months of recovery.
Through this experience, I realized the real consequences of pursuing academic
goals through unhealthy habits.
I
returned to the university with a newly refreshed appreciation for the power of
the human mind. I was also very aware of how much ability the average human is
wasting just for want of a little courage. The problem was not that we are
inadequate, mentally or otherwise… it was that we feared too much and worried
non-stop. The problem with exceptional people on the other hand, is over-confidence and over-ambition. I have therefore, taken it upon myself to be the voice of reason, so that future undergraduates can avoid both extremes.
